Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 2026
Hey there! Welcome to the Artemis Privacy Policy.
We know reading a privacy policy isn’t exactly a thrilling way to spend your time. But we put a lot of effort into making this clear and transparent because we want you to understand exactly how things work. Think of us as your digital wingmate—here to guide you through what data we collect, why we need it, and how we protect it.
This policy keeps us compliant with US federal laws, state laws (like the CCPA and Georgia's GCPPA), and Canadian regulations (PIPEDA). Let’s dive in.
1. Data We Collect
We can’t help you find a great match without knowing a bit about you. Here is the breakdown of the information we collect:
- Account Data: When you create an account, you give us the basics: your phone number, email address, and date of birth. (Note: Your phone number and exact age are for backend safety verification and are never displayed publicly).
- Profile Data: The fun stuff. Photos, bios, and interests.
- Sensitive Data: If you choose to share details like your sexual orientation, race, or religious beliefs on your profile, you are explicitly opting in and consenting to us processing this data to find you matches. You can remove this from your profile at any time.
- Usage & Device Data: When you use Artemis, we automatically collect data about your device (like IP address and device ID) and your activity (like who you match with and when you log in).
- Geolocation: With your device's permission, we collect your location to show you people nearby.
2. How and Why We Use Your Data
The main reason we process your data is to provide the Artemis service and improve it. Specifically, we use it to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Show your profile to other users and recommend matches to you.
- Keep the platform safe by verifying identities and investigating reported bad behavior.
3. How We Share Data
We want to be crystal clear: Artemis does not sell your personal data.
We only share your information in the following ways:
- With Service Providers: We use trusted tech partners to keep the app running. For example, we use Firebase to securely handle your account authentication and Netlify to host our services.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, in response to a subpoena, or to assist in a criminal investigation to protect the safety of our users.
4. Cross-Border Transfers
If you are using Artemis from Canada, please note that your data is securely transferred to, processed, and stored on servers located in the United States. It is subject to US laws and may be accessible to US law enforcement under specific legal circumstances.
5. Your Safety & Background Checks
Artemis does not conduct criminal background checks or screen users through the sex offender registry. We do not verify the offline identities of our users. You are solely responsible for your interactions. We highly recommend reviewing our Safety Tips before meeting anyone in real life.
6. Data Retention and Account States
We only keep your data for as long as we need it to provide our service:
- Active Accounts: We retain your data to keep your profile running.
- Disabled/Hidden Accounts: If you take a break and hide your profile, we keep your data securely stored so you can pick up right where you left off.
- Deleted Accounts: When you permanently delete your account in the app settings, your personal data is immediately removed from our active systems. Secure backups are fully purged within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Artemis is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we find out someone underage has sneaked onto the platform, we delete their account and data immediately.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live (including California, Virginia, Georgia, and Canada), you have the right to:
